A Mario Kart DS remake
With the announcement of the 32 new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC tracks being added over the course of the next two years, I thought about how cool it would be if Mario Kart DS got a complete remake for the Switch. Of course, this isn't likely to happen, since it tends to only be a small number tracks that get remade and added to modern Mario Kart games instead of a complete game remake. But I thought this idea would make a cool post.
Now Mario Kart DS is one of my most nostalgic video games. I used to play it lots with friends and my brother back when the Nintendo DSi was the latest Nintendo system. Even a few years after that, I still used to play it with friends from time to time. Nowadays, whenever I hear some soundtracks from the game, I feel a sense of nostalgia.
If the game was remade, there could be the option of having the original graphics displayed, or the new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe graphics with the new track remake layouts. That way, fans could get a sense of nostalgia from the original, or play the new ones.
The wifi connection for the DS was turned off back in May 2014. Mario Kart DS was a fun game to play online, and although the newer Mario Kart games are a lot of fun to play online, it would be cool getting to have the option of a completely different Mario Kart style game to play online. MKDS was so much fun to play with friends, and it would be great if that was revived.
And I'd like it if the 200CC option was a grand prix option in the game, since it's a good mode for long-term/very good Mario Kart players that requires a lot of skills. And as for the challenge mode in the original Mario Kart DS game, it would be cool if even more levels for that got added in a remake. I was surprised this mode never appeared in later Mario Kart game, since it seemed like a good little extra mode for players who wanted to try something different in the game.
As for soundtracks, I think it would be great if not only were the original soundtracks kept as an option, but also if some remixes of the MKDS tracks were made. We could even have soundtracks that keep half of the original tune, while the other half is a remix. Or even have some of the newer soundtracks used in Mario Kart games appear on the remake.
Anyways, those were my thoughts about a possible Mario Kart DS remake.
